About Us

The Swing Street Orchestra is a 14 piece swing band based in Sussex with over 20 years' experience! Our heart and soul is in music from the Swing era, but we play songs from 80 years ago to the present day. Our speciality -  to make your event swing!

 

With our lively performances and carefully curated set lists, we ensure that your guests are entertained and swinging throughout your event with our unbeatable big band sound!​

 

Our first gig was in 2005, and we'e been going continuously since 2009 (apart from the covid years).​ Jeanette Powell, our founder member and alto-saxophonist, first got the band together for Beatles Day (an annual event in our local town of Hastings, East Sussex). Our first gig was such a success that we were then asked to do some charity gigs and it grew from there! From a handful of numbers, we now have over 2000 songs in our repertoire.  

 

The members of the band have fluctuated over the years as people's lives take different shapes and responsibilities. However Jeanette Powell, Sarah Stretton, John Fox, Nick Perrin, Trevor Beale and Howard Linton have been constant and loyal members since the beginning and are the backbone of the orchestra.
